Pediatrics (Children’s Dentistry)

At Cottonwood Dental Associates, we love to treat the entire family including your children. We recommend that your baby establish a dental home with us no later than age one. Kids are always growing, and they have special dental considerations that need to be addressed along their way to adulthood.
At Cottonwood Dental, all of our doctors have families of their own, and we understand the unique challenge that children create. We have proven methods that allow us to work well with your child and make their dental experience a positive one.

Your Child’s First Visit

It’s important for us to help your child understand that taking good care of their teeth is a positive thing. Our goal is to create a safe environment where your child always feels at ease with grownups who care about them.
We plan your child’s first visits to be very low-key. It’s important for us to gain your child’s trust right from the start, so we’ll adjust the first visit depending on how well they’re responding to us.
In general, first visits typically go as follows:
  • We’ll have your little one sit on your lap so they’ll feel secure knowing mom or dad is right there with them.
  • If your child is receptive, we’ll apply a fluoride varnish and take a quick look at his or her teeth to see if there are any obvious problems.
  • We’ll discuss the best ways to help your child develop good brushing habits, proper diet and how it affects dental development, and the ways that thumb sucking and other habits affect your child’s teeth.

We Put Your Child at Ease

Our dentist team has a gentle approach with kids and treats them with respect for their individual needs. You can feel confident that your children’s oral health is in excellent hands at Cottonwood Dental Associates!
As a parent, there are also steps you can take to put your child at ease before dental visits. It’s important to focus on the positive aspects of dentistry, avoiding words like “needle” or “drill” that might cause unnecessary fear. Instead, approach the dental visit as a new and exciting adventure that your child can look forward to. Definitely inform your child about the visit and tell them that the dentist will explain everything they need to know and answer their questions.
We value the trust you place in us by allowing us to be a part of your child's health care team. Our dentist team wants your child to get the best possible start with their dental care. We welcome the opportunity to introduce your child to the positive aspects of good dental care in a warm and supportive environment.
Please give us a call, and we’ll be happy to arrange a visit so you and your little one can come in and meet our dentist.
