This is a very frequent situation that we encounter at Cottonwood Dental and we will treat every patient with the utmost respect. We feel that with the proper techniques our injections are essentially painless. We take the extra time to assure that our patients are always comfortable and we won't ever rush into a procedure.
We use prescription strength compounded topical anesthetic to numb the area before we use any needles. Often times our patients don't even know when they got an injection.
Ok, first thing you need to do is take a deep breath... Things will be okay!!!
The first thing most people want to do is wash, rinse, scrub or clean the tooth... don't do that quite yet!

If you are close to a dentist (if you can get there within 30 minutes), then do the following:
- -Find a glass of milk and put the tooth in there (If you don't have milk you can actually put the tooth in your mouth by your cheek and keep it there until you get to the dentist)
- -Head to the doctor asap. They will be able to replant the tooth and give you an idea of the long term prognosis.
- -If there is visible dirt or debris on the tooth from falling out, then lightly rinse the tooth in milk or water, be careful to only remove the loose dirt without any scrubbing.
- -Put the tooth back in the socket
- -Try to place it as close as you can to the correct position
- -Hold it in that position and head to your nearest ER or dentist
Preventative Dental Care
You really do need to floss once per day. Bacteria really like to hang out between your teeth and if you're not flossing daily they start to cause cavities in those hard to reach areas. If the bacteria hang out there long enough they can cause gum recession and even worse, bone loss. Although you really need to be flossing once a day lets be realistic. If you aren't in the habit of doing it that often it may be a little much to ask. So how about this- Get a packet of "pluckers" from the dollar store and keep them in an accessible area like in your car, by the couch, or in your desk at work. When you are bored take out a "plucker" and run it between all of your teeth. Its really easy to do while you're watching TV, driving to work, etc... and it only takes 30 seconds. This is a really easy way to get in the habit of flossing.
It only takes 24 hours for plaque to start building on your teeth, therefore as soon as you leave the dentist after your cleaning plaque is already building up. With strict home care including brushing twice a day and flossing once a day you can keep most of the plaque under control, but unfortunately this usually doesn't usually remove all the plaque and calculus that has been building up for the last few months. Seeing the dentist and hygienist every 6 months insures you have a clean slate to start from at least twice a year. They will remove all plaque and calculus and leave you feeling shiny smooth.

They made sure that their qualifications were obvious I was confident that I was under the care of a professional. I will absolutely return. I had an amazing experience. ”

“I love Dr. Boseman and trust that he's not going to do any unnecessary treatments. Once, he even saved me from having to get a root canal, where some dentists would just do the root canal instead of making the extra effort. ”
